With the Bills first game coming up in less than 7 days against the Seattle Seahawks the pro bowl left tackle still has had no contact with the team, and of course has not reported to any of the pratices. Peters is still holding out for more money. The tackle is still signed through 2011 after he signed a 5 year, $15 million deal back in the summer of 2006. Peters is due $3.3 million this season.

The question is not whether Peters is underpaid, which he is by a lot, but if he handled this the right way at all. Jason Peters shares an agent with St. Louis Rams runningback Steven Jackson. Now some people have said that Jackson was in the same situation as Peters, and look he got resigned by the team when they realized they couldn't do without him and that clearly is not the case.

Jackson was already in contract talks with the Rams before Training Camp began. He came back to Training Camp when he realized his deal was almost finalized and eventually the deal was done and Jackson was a happy man with a boatload of money.

The situation is different with Peters. The biggest difference is that he has made no contact to the Buffalo Bills organization. Nor has he had contact with any of his teammates besides fellow linemen Derrick Dockery. The two have not discussed his holdout at all in the text message they have exchanged.

According to a NFL Network report, Peters said he doesn't plan on showing up to the Bills anytime soon. It was even rumored that he will sit out the entire year. Other sites have put the holdout up until Week 10 of the regular season (mostly because if Peters sits out the whole year, he will still be held to the 3 years left on his deal and nothing will change).

Bills mangement has come out and said that they will not discuss his contract until he reports to the team. The Bills are usually good when it comes to this. They have done this with Aaron Schobel, and Kyle Williams this year with his new deal. They are also talking to WR Lee Evans about a possible contract extension with the playmaker.

The Bills are not in the wrong here. Peters signed the contract and now has to live up to it. He is not only hurting himself but the entire team. He is showing selfish behavior and a me first attudide. Personally I believe that if Peters doesn't come back before Week 1, he should spend the rest of the year on the bench. Sure it would be a big hit to the teams o-line but it would send a message to Peters and his greddy agent.

The Bills have taken a hard nosed stance so far in this saga, and it would be great to see if they continued it. They have handled this situation the right way from the start.

Sabathia Makes His Case for NL CY Young

C.C. Sabathia continues to go after the NL Cy Young award, throwing another gem today against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sabathia allowed just an infield single from Andy LaRoche and struck out 11 in a complete-game shutout as he continues his NL dominance. The infield single was one that C.C. bobble. Replays showed that LaRoche would have most likely beaten it out despite the bad play by Sabathia. The Brewers organization are appealing the ruling to try to get the hit turned to an error. If that happens (and that is a long shot), it would be C.C.'s first career NO-NO.

In the complete game, Sabathia threw 117 pitches today (came into the 9th with 109). C.C. is now 9-0 in 11 games with his new team.

Sabathia is now 15-8 on the year with a 2.82 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 210 innings pitched.

NFL Preview

The NFL season starts in just under 5 days and I just finished up the NFL Preview Show and if you missed it here is the quick rundown (NOTE: a team with a * is a playoff team and the (#) is the seed that they will have):

First up the AFC:

AFC East

1. Simms was injuried last year and was the backup to vetran Jeff Garcia coming into this season's training camp. He asked for a release or trade earlier in the offseason and eventually got his wish. The 28 year old has not played an entire season in his career.

It is being reported by sources that the Ravens might be interested in him. He does show some NFL starting QB talent IF he can stay heathly. The game starts at 8:00 PM Eastern time. The play-by-play will go until halftime. After halftime be sure to check out The Schaefer Show that follows. It will have the LIVE play-by-play of the rest of the game and I will be joined by Paul Kasprzak during the second half. Paul has his own great football commentary website which you can check out at http://kasperskorner.speakupwny.com. He also writes for Youcastr with his football blog. You can find it by searching the username KasprKorner. Paul from time to time also does his own radio show on youcastr. It will turn into a PTI like debate on the Buffalo Bills. It should be fun.

Be sure to check out the two broadcasts. If you have any questions or comments on the Buffalo Bills or the NFL send over an email to theschaefershow@yahoo.com. Your email will be read on the air and will be addressed by the two of us. Also be sure to join us in the live Youcastr chatroom.

Should be two great shows tonight. Make sure you are there so you don't miss out on all the fun. We talked about him and his team during the lastest edtion of The Schaefer Show.

NEW Time and Day for The Schaefer Show this Week

Due to double sessions for football being underway this week, The Schaefer Show will not air during the weekday at all. Both Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford are on the DL and a source today said that Crawford will undergo surgery which might end his season. He might be back for the last series of the year and/or the playoffs. However his season might be done.

Hideki Matsui is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment today at Single-A. He has been injuried with his knee for quite some time now. He did not want to go under the knife so he could come back at the end of the year. Not sure if that is a great idea now seeing as the team is 9 games back in the AL East.

The Red Sox also announced that Mike Lowell has been put on the 15 DL.

The only good news injury-wise for the Rays is that Jason Bartlett has been cleared to play shortstop again. His finger was hurt and was causing throwing problems.

Show Time Change for 8/11

The Schaefer Show will air at 8:55 AM Eastern time and will run for just under a hour. There will be no shows August 2nd-9th as that is when I am on vacation. I would just like to say thank you to all the listeners as they make the show what it is and without them I would just be talking to myself.

Some more notes on the show.
The show will air at its regular time of 10:05 on weekday mornings from August 11th-15th. It is still undecided if there will be a weekend show and I will tell everyone in advance. As of right now the answer is no but I hope to work something out. From August 18th through the future, the weekday shows will be moved into a primetime slot. As of right now the reasonable time will be 7 o’clock. This is because of both school and football. Sorry for the movement but that is how I will have to fit in into my schedule. The shows will also be a little shorter than they are now, too. When school starts back up again there WILL be a weekend show, that right now will air Saturday and Sunday afternoons. No time has been deceiced yet for these shows.

Again thank you for your support and sorry for the changes.

Jason Peters Told to Report to Camp

From Rotoworld.com:

"The Bills say they won't negotiate a new contract for LT Jason Peters until he concludes his holdout and reports.

Peters has been gone for nearly a week and is racking up $15,116 daily fines in the process. Meanwhile, usual starting RT Langston Walker is working at left tackle. It's nice that the Bills are taking a hard-line stance, but Peters is quite possibly their best player and he's clearly underpaid."

Sorry to say but I am not on Jason Peters side on this one. He is currently under contract for the next three seasons. He has to show up to camp and then work the contract situation out, just like Lee Evans did (Evans is in the final year of his contract and is currently working with the Bills on a new extention). I do agree he is underpaid BUT he signed the deal and must honor it and then the Bills can work it out with him while he is in camp. He needs to get to camp and work with his teammates. What he is doing right now does not help himself or the team.

Texeria headed to the LA Angels.

ESPN's Keith Law reports that the Braves have acquired Casey Kotchman and Stephen Marek from the Angels for Mark Teixeira.

More to come on the next Schaefer Show about this deal and #4 returning to the Pack.

Favre is BACK!!

He finally faxed in that stupid letter. Reportly, Donaghy's scandal was going on to close to 4 years. He was taking payoffs from a professional gambler for inside tips on games, like who was working the games beforehand and calling more fouls to try to cover the over-under bet. Donaghy could have recieved up to 33 months in jail. For now the scandal is over despite there being rumors out there that there might be another ref in the scandal with Donaghy. The Bronx Bombers got OF Xavier Nady who was hitting .330 with 13 homeruns and 57 RBIs at the time of the deal, and bullpen help with Damaso Marte. Marte will turn into the setup man. The Pirates got Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf and two other prospects from the Yanks in return.

In football news, Radiers RB Lamont Jordan was released by the team about 45 minutes ago. He is one of the better RBs now avalible in free agency (with Shaun Alexander). The report says the Saints or Patriots could be potential suitors. Not sure I agree with him going to either one of those teams but let’s wait and see.

Locally here in Buffalo, star WR Lee Evans says he has had good dialogue with the Bills regarding a potential contact extension. Good news for the Bills. They rally need to lock him up now becuase if they don’t he will be gone at the end of the year and then the Bills 2nd round pick this year, WR James Hardy could face a similar situation Evans has been in for such a long time. Schefter adds that indications are Favre is returning with the intention of spending the season with the Packers. Even if Favre and the Packers put on a "mending the fences" show, it would likely be just a ploy to help garner an acceptable trade package."

I think he will be gone by the first week of the season. No way will Brett be the backup QB not just for the Packers but for any team. It will be interesting to see what this will mean for the team and what his teammates think about the whole situation. More to follow in the next few days for sure and Sunday at Packers Camp will be something everyone in the media will be covering. This is what is being said so far.
From rotoworld.com:

“Yahoo Sports’ Jason Cole reports that the Packers are near an agreement with Brett Favre.

Green Bay would draw up a list of teams that are willing to trade for Favre, then he would choose his preference. “But it may take awhile,” said a source. “The Packers are hoping that some team has a big injury and then is forced to make a deal.” The source also says concerns about Favre’s ability to pick up an offense are overblown: “Brett is a sandlot guy. What you’re going to do with him is find his 10 favorite plays and run those. Forget him learning your whole playbook. That’s not going to work.”

So the Ironman might be playing after all…

Listen to my Live Show 2moro Morning at 10 A.M. Eastern. Of course there was nothing about the years or money involved when the Bills announced he was signed. The 6’6” WR who rewrote the Indiana records in everything recieving will greatly help out the Bills this year on the offensive side of the ball. He will be a big target for a young QB in Trent Edwards.

Hardy is taking part in the first pratice of training camp tonight which started a few minutes ago at 8:30 eastern time.

The Bills first round selection, Leodis McKelvin is now the only Bills rookie not signed and my guess is he will be in uniform by the end of the weekend.
In other Bills news, LT Jason Peters was not in attendence. He is still holding out for a better contract. Conversations between Peter’s agent and the Bills have been non exsistent. The star LT has until midnight to report which the Bills are hoping he does or he will be fined. Peters still has 3 years left on his current contract.

Keep listening to my Buffalo Sports Talk show for more information and news about the Buffalo Bills. I will also be on tommarrow at 10:00 A.M. Eastern for The Schaefer Show which includes the NFL and MLB news from around both of the leagues. Standing at 6’ 5”, 212 lbs. this guy could fit in nicely in the Bills DE rotation.

The Bills also signed 6th round pick Xavier Omon the RB from NW Missouri State. I don’t think he will even make the team, but it might happen.

The Bills still have their top two picks to sign before training camp begins tonight. 1st rounder Leodid McKelvin the CB from Troy and 2nd rounder James Hardy the WR from Nebraska still remain unsigned.

For more Bills Talk listen to my latest Bills Show on Buffalo Sports Talk or for more national coverage of sports listen to The Schaefer Show.
